Privacy
What this site does not do
It does not use cookies, load third-party tracking scripts (analytics or advertising) or require an account. Fonts are hosted on the same server, so your browser does not connect to Google Fonts.
Visit statistics
We count how many people visit the site with a simple counter running on the routing.pl server. We use no cookies and no third-party analytics service. When a page opens, your browser sends one request containing the path of the visited page and the domain you came from (if any). This produces only aggregate daily counters: page views and unique visitors, most viewed pages, referring domains, country (supplied by Cloudflare) and page language.
To tell one visitor from another, the server computes a one-way hash in memory from the IP address, the User-Agent header and a random salt that is replaced every day and never stored. After the salt changes the hash cannot be linked to earlier visits and the IP address cannot be recovered from it. We do not write IP addresses, hashes or any data about individual people to disk, and aggregate counters are kept for up to 13 months. Bots and visitors who send a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal are not counted. The legal basis is the controller’s legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR): knowing which tools visitors use.
What is stored in your browser
We store only your chosen theme (rp-theme), language (rp-lang) and, if you tick the box above, the choice not to count your visits (rp-notrack) in the browser’s local storage (localStorage). This data never leaves your device and is only used to remember your settings.
Server-side tools
When you use tools such as the port checker, traceroute or the certificate check, the server processes the target you enter and your IP address in order to run the test and enforce rate limits. The rate limiter keeps the IP address only in the process memory for one hour (we do not write it to disk and keep no request or visit log). The port checker uses your own IP address as the only allowed target. The home page shows you your IP address: the routing.pl server sends it back only to your browser and does not store it.
Third-party services
Some tools fetch data straight from your browser from public sources: DNS resolvers (Cloudflare, Google, Quad9) in the DNS lookup tool, Cloudflare also when a domain is turned into an address in the whois and BGP tools, RIPEstat (RIPE NCC) in the whois and BGP tools, and services that determine your IP address and location (ipify, ipwho.is) in the “What is my IP” tool. You connect to them once you open the page of such a tool (the “What is my IP” tool asks for your address right away; the others send a connectivity check on opening and the query when you click), and their operators then see your IP address and the query you entered. The IPv4 and IPv6 subnet calculators do not connect to any external services.
The server-side tools (SSL/TLS, ports, traceroute, MTU, DNSBL blacklists) run the test from the routing.pl server, so the tested host and the blocklist operators see the server’s address rather than yours.
Hosting
The site is served through Cloudflare (tunnel and content delivery network). Cloudflare processes HTTP traffic, including visitors’ IP addresses, in order to deliver and protect the site. Details: cloudflare.com/privacypolicy.
Purpose and legal basis
We process data (IP address, the target you enter) to run the tool you start, to protect the server against abuse (rate limits, blocking private targets) and to deliver the site. The legal basis is the controller’s legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR): operating and securing a free service. We make no automated decisions and do not profile visitors.
Recipients and transfers outside the EEA
Data reaches the parties listed above, which also operate outside the European Economic Area (Cloudflare, Google, ipify and ipwho.is). Transfers rely on the mechanisms their operators use (for example the Data Privacy Framework or standard contractual clauses). See each provider’s privacy policy for details.
How long we keep data
The routing.pl server does not write IP addresses or queries to disk and keeps no request log. Rate-limit counters live in memory for up to one hour, and aggregate visit statistics (containing no personal data) are kept for up to 13 months. Retention at third-party services (including Cloudflare) is set by their operators.
Your rights
You have the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, objection to processing based on legitimate interest, and the right to lodge a complaint with the supervisory authority (in Poland: the President of the Personal Data Protection Office, uodo.gov.pl). Because the routing.pl server does not store IP addresses, some rights can only be exercised to a limited extent. Providing data is voluntary, but network tools cannot work without an IP address.
